(Pitof, 2004)
I have a theory: be suspicious of directors who go by only one name. My case for this: McG, Madonna (we'll get to her soon enough), and now...Pitof(!), director of Catwoman.
Like Battlefield Earth, Jen and I have been aware of these films as notable bombs for some time, but it took a global pandemic for us to find out just how terrible they are for ourselves. Not to be confused with the movie from our "12 Terrible Movies of Christmas" Marathon, Cat Women of the Moon (1953), this frantically cut-together output from the DC Comics Universe is in color, and does not take place on the Moon. Featuring Halle Berry as graphics designer Patience Philips/titular feline possession victim and Sharon Stone as her cold-cream-based super-villain nemesis, Laurel Hedare, Catwoman falls on the more "enjoyable viewing" end of the terrible movie spectrum. As we cross the halfway point in this 19 movie marathon, an entry with some campy Showgirls-esque qualities is a relief. Unfortunately, Catwoman risks its status as enjoyable big budget trash via it's hyper-edited style, which might bring to mind something like Sergie Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin...if it were terrible, and featured a whip-brandishing feline heroine rising up to take down an evil cosmetics company.
